Mitral, Tricuspid, & Atrial Valve Combination Codes

Date: Oct 30, 2018

Question:

I know that when ICD-10-CM went into effect in October 2015 coding protocol was to report multiple valve diseases with I08.X. Example: I08.0, Rheumatic disorders of both mitral and aortic valves (involvement of both mitral and aortic valves specified as rheumatic or UNSPECIFIED). We have been reporting these as I08.X even when non-rheumatic. Have there been any updates as to how to report non-rheumatic multiple valve diseases? Some of our commercial payers are insisting that this code means rheumatic.
