Question: This question is regarding your
anatomical chart for "Variant Arch Anatomy - Bovine
Transfemoral Approach". The R common
carotid and R subclavian are presented as 3rd order
catheter placements. Is this a
typo? I understand that the L common
carotid is a 2nd order in this situation and thought the
R common carotid and R subclavian were 2nd orders as
well. Can you please
explain?
Dr Z’s
Answer: Per SIR guidebook (since 2002), the
Brachiocephalic artery of a bovine arch is 1st order
selective, the LCCA and the short segment of the
Brachiocephalic artery above the take-off of the LCCA is
2nd order selective and the RCCA and R Subclavian
arteries are 3rd order selections. This has been
pictured in their Guidebook since 2003. I don't make the
rules, I just follow them!
