here’s a bonus coding Q & A before the close of
year:
Coding
Question: Someone is
trying to get me to add 93544 to 75625 when abdominal AO
is done in the setting of a LHC. They state it is the
injection code for the 75625, the S&I portion. I
stated 93544 is not used w/ 75625. Correct or
incorrect?
Dr. Z’s
Answer: You cannot
code for both 93544 and 75625 when the only procedure
performed is a complete abdominal aortogram. The 75625
includes the injection. 93544 refers to the injection
procedure for an aortogram of the ascending aorta(by
medical necessity) to evaluate for Aortic insufficiency,
ascending aortic aneurysm, search for vein grafts, etc,
and has nothing to do with the abdominal aorta. So
again, I would not bill codes together unless separate
and complete studies of both areas are evaluated at the
time of a cardiac cath.
