ZHealth Publishing Company Information and Management Bios
"ZHealth
Publishing is all about providing "do-it-yourself" reference
guides for HIM medical coders and billers, physicians, nurses, technologists,
and other healthcare professionals to use daily to improve coding compliance—and,
in many cases—reimbursement. We focus exclusively on the specialty
area we know best: interventional radiology, cardiology, and vascular
surgery."
Based in Nashville, Tennessee, ZHealth Publishing LLC publishes books,
manuals and other publications devoted to the coding and reimbursement
of interventional radiology and cardiology procedures performed in hospitals,
physician offices and other medical facilities. In concert with its partner Ingram & Associates, ZHealth provides related interventional radiology
and cardiology consulting and educational services.
David Zielske, MD, CCS, CPC-Cardio, CPC-H, RCC
Dr. David Zielske (Dr. "Z") is the founder and President
of ZHealth Publishing. As the primary author and editor of each ZHealth
publication, Dr. Z works closely with his staff that includes David Dunn
MD, FACS, CCS, CPC-Cardio, CPC-H, RCC and a vascular surgeon, Don Crumbo MD, an interventional cardiologist,
and Ruth Broek, MBA,
RTR, CHC and CCS, a radiology coding professional. Together they combine for
more than 50 years of coding experience.
Dr. Z first got involved in CPT coding of interventional radiology
procedures in 1992 after he convinced his radiology group that the complexity
of their procedures coupled with the complexity of CPT component coding
was resulting in significant miscoding and lost reimbursement. From that
point on, Dr. Z reviewed every case within his group for appropriate
coding, and through the end of 2003, he had personally audited and coded
over 100,000 interventional radiology/diagnostic angiography cases.
Although HCPCS/CPT coding for interventional radiology and diagnostic
angiography was mandated in 1988, its impact was really felt in 2000
when APC payment was implemented. At that point the amount of confusion
about Medicare compliance and reimbursement began to escalate. Dr. Z
continued his radiology practice, founded ZHealth, and joined Ingram & Associates as Vice President of Physician
Services to head up Ingram's initiative into CVIR
(Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology) Coding & Compliance
Services (a joint venture with ZHealth).
Dr. Z is responsible for the overall direction of Ingram & Associates'
Cardiovascular & Interventional Radiology (CVIR) Coding
services group. He has years of experience as an Interventional Radiology
practitioner, including thirteen years as a coding reviewer and coding
expert. He is Board Certified in Radiology with additional Certification
of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Interventional Radiology (ABR). He also
has his CCS, RCC and CPC-H certifications.
Dr. Z is a member of the Radiological Society of North America, Society
of Interventional Radiology, Southeastern Angiographic Society, American
Medical Association (AMA), and the Radiology Business Managers Association.
Over his career, he has functioned as an independent interventional radiology
coding consultant to a variety of physician groups and hospital providers
across the country and has served as an instructor at numerous CME programs.
He has been a Distinguished Reviewer for JVIR.
A graduate of Oregon State University and Oregon State Sciences University
School of Medicine, Dr. Z completed his radiology residency and interventional
fellowship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA.
David B. Dunn, MD, FACS, CCS, CPC-Cardio, CPC-H, RCC
David Dunn, MD, Vice President-ZHealth, oversees physician coding and manages ZHealth operations. He also participates as a regular instructor for ZHealth educational programs. He recently completed the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Coding Reference in Dr. Z’s Medical Coding Series and is a contributor to the Interventional Radiology Coding Reference as well as the Diagnostic and Interventional Cardiovascular Coding Reference, which was recently released.
A graduate of Texas A&M University, he completed his M.D. at the University of Texas in San Antonio, his surgical residency at Scott & White in Temple, Texas, and his vascular surgery fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Dr. Dunn spent over ten years as an active vascular surgeon in private practice, which included endovascular procedures. A diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Dunn is also certified in Vascular Surgery. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery. Dr. Dunn also has the CCS, CPC-Cardio, RCC and CPC-H coding certifications. He joined his longtime colleague, Dr. “Z”, at ZHealth in 2002.
Don
Crumbo, MD
A graduate of the University of Kentucky and Vanderbilt University Medical
School, Don Crumbo, MD completed his internship and residency in Internal
Medicine at the Parkland Memorial Hospital University of Texas Southwestern
Medical School at Dallas where he also completed his Fellowship in Cardiology.
He is Board Certified in Cardiology and a Fellow of the American College
of Cardiology. Dr. Crumbo has been in private practice for over twenty
years and has extensive experience in both noninvasive and invasive Cardiology,
including percutaneous interventional procedures. In addition, he has
more than ten years of Hospital Board experience and is a Board Member
of the Tennessee Hospital Association.
